My solo exhibition at Serpentine Community Gallery Lismore doesn’t have a title.
If it did, it could be called “ A moving, multi layered Still Life”.
The works on show have been created over the past five years.
I haven’t lived in town for many years and work from my studio “ in the bush” surrounded by my garden, rolling, layered hills and magnificent old Forest red gums.
My art making features works on paper using charcoal, inks and mixed media collage.
I also work with acrylics and mixed media on canvas, fibre work and installation.
Subjects include, Nature, Abstract landscapes and Abstract figurative works. Currently I’m working on a series of still lifes. I am obsessed with exploring colour. My love of text and language often comes into my work. Music is always in the background.
My work is created from my own multi layered “ life narrative”, reflecting my passion for sustainable habitat gardening, nature and wild life and my own “ bower bird” love of collecting, recycling and repurposing.
Underlying all of this, is my life experience, with studies in Art and my working background in Advertising, Photographic and Fashion Styling, Renovating old houses, and importantly my study and work as an Arts Therapist in my own practice and in Acute Mental Health.
My art making is always based on my own need to explore through creative expression, discovering, making sense and finding meaning.
