New gallery to unite local artists

Over 40 local artists and performers will join forces next Friday, November 10, for the grand opening of the Serpentine Gallery, a newly formed co-op gallery located in Bridge Street, North Lismore.

Instigated by local artists Amy Harris and Corrine Batt-Rawden, the gallery will be a space for emerging and accomplished artists across all mediums to exhibit and sell their work.

“We wanted to create a space for those artists who wouldn’t normally have a space to exhibit their work,” said Amy, “and we’re encouraging all artists to get involved – performance, visual, music, spoken word or sculpture.”

The opening exhibition is titled Rainbow Industria, inspired by the Rainbow  Region the artists live in and the industrial feel of the gallery.

“There’s such an abundance of amazing artists in this area and we hope that the co-op will create a link for local artists and a hub where artists can get together and support each other,” said Corrine. “We want those artists who are locked away in their sheds or studios to come out of the woodwork and let their art be seen by the general public.”

The opening is on Friday, November 10, at 6pm. It will feature performance art and fiddle player David Ramsay, followed by an after party at the Winsome Hotel with burlesque dancers and circus performers, Japanese rope bondage and DJs Noodles and Wallopalooza. Entry to the after party is $15/10.

Serpentine Gallery is at 17a Bridge Street, North Lismore. For more information on the co-op or the opening night phone the gallery on 6621 684.
